Walking England’s Longest River for Growing Points

My aim is to support Growing Points becoming a digital charity, providing on-line services across the country and celebrate the success of our customers in our Hidden Talents scheme in Leeds, adding over 50 refugees to the nursing workforce of the NHS.Our mission remains the same: to help people from excluded communities achieve their leadership ambition. Over the past 5 years we have worked with over 300 people (many of them refugees) with an 80% success rate, achieved by networking with our 30 or so wonderful volunteer Guardians.
All our workers are unpaid so you can be assured that your contribution will be both welcomed and go directly to support our customers. Please help us reach more customers in 2021 and bring them from the margins to the mainstream of our society.”

Hidden Talents is a programme in Leeds where our customers are supported to pursue a career in the NHS as apprentices or as clinical support works or as business administrators. Four people have been successful in the last round of recruitment and our congratulations to them! We will keep you updated on other successes.
New Ways of working
Covid 19 has meant that we have been unable to meet customers face to face and the situation is unlikely to change in the near future. For this reason we are going to change the way we work. We will offer our customers the opportunity to “meet” their Guardians online via Zoom or Skype or by telephone if they do not have access to a laptop. We will be providing exactly the same services as before but we can offer this online service to customers wherever they live!
We are also running a pilot to see how customers can refer themselves directly to the charity and will let you know about that in due course. Partner organisations can continue to refer using the electronic form on the website here.
We are always looking for new Guardians – these are our volunteers. Why volunteer?
- It is great to support people and see them succeed
- It is highly flexible – to suit you and your customers
- Time commitment is only 3 to 4 hours per month

We have recently recruited a Guardian to operate our twitter account to remind people that we are a national charity and take referrals from anywhere in England and Wales – Welcome to Luchia!

If you have used our service and would like to recommend it – please do send us a video message – no longer than 30 seconds, saying why and what difference it has made to you. We want to encourage other customers to come forward and we would put your message on our website.
To Our Guardians
We have a short video – link above – from David saying what he got from being a Guardian. If you would like to send a short video please do, as we want to widen our range of volunteers to offer the best possible service to our customers.
